I now have the pleasure of taking photos of my neice and my nephew. Bryson is a jolly little guy, so there's no problem getting him to smile, but he was a little more interested in the bows on the boxes than looking at me. Adalyn is now a seasoned pro at photos! Sessions are even more fun when I get hugs and kisses from Adalyn between shots!

It's crazy when I'm taking pictures of people that I've known since they were babies. When did they grow up to be seniors?
Morgan and her mom, Sheri, and I traveled all around Charleston yesterday for some great shots. We had a good time, even though it was hot! I ended up taking 550 photos yesterday and managed to get the final number down to just under 200. There were so many great pictures that I had a hard time picking which ones to put on the blog! I am wayyyyy behind on posting! My husband and I are flipping a house and that takes most of my time. Fortunately, I had a few minutes this evening to post some sessions!

This is baby Ty. His mom, Johnna, and I went to school together from kindergarten to college. My mom and her dad taught together at our elementary school. In junior high, my mom made us waffles for breakfast before school. It's so fun that I can take pictures of her baby now!

Ty was born a few days before Christmas, so we threw in a few Christmas outfits even though Christmas is past. He's such a cutie!

Once again, this session made me feel old. My sister and I used to babysit Sam and his brother a long time ago. Now Sam's getting ready to graduate from high school!

Sarah and Luke and I met halfway for all of us at Dunbar Wine Cellar Park. We had a break from the rain for their session, but I didn't think about how saturated the ground would be. We were all wet (and a little muddy!) from at least mid-calf down. We had a great session, though, despite the small lakes in the middle of the park. Congratulations, Sarah and Luke! Silkwood Family

The Silkwood family was all together for Thanksgiving so we took some pictures! We met at the Capitol complex, but the building wasn't open and it was cold outside! We took a quick photo there and then headed over to the Clay Center and took a few more. The boys were really cooperative and we had them done in no time!

The studio is located at 717 Lee Street in the historic Oddfellows Building. I'll be upstairs in room 410 with a beautiful view of Davis Park. The studio will be open by appointment only.

Megan and I met in church when we were in second grade. We grew up at Oakwood together, surivived a few mission trips, and now we're all grown up! Through the wonders of Facebook, I've watched Megan and Ricky fall in love. One morning, while I was sitting in church, I got a text from my mom telling me that Megan and Ricky were at church and Megan had a ring! On Saturday, we met at Ritter Park in Huntington for round one of their engagement pictures. We'll continue them this Saturday in Charleston. We had a beautiful day to shoot and Megan and Ricky were naturals. I hope you enjoy the first batch of pictures!

Artsy?

In college, I just couldn't get my creativity turned on. In my photography classes, I couldn't get out of the box. One particular professor spent many semesters pushing and shoving me to get creative, but I managed to just get her to be creative for me. It was a win-win. (Well, maybe just for me!) After college, I went to Disney and got in a different box. The poses and photos that we were taking were good, but they were all the same. I didn't realize until recently how confined I felt there. It was safe because I knew what I needed to shoot and I could check off my list, but it was very limiting. I think, just maybe, I've finally unlocked my creative gene. It's very freeing to do what you love and try new things all the time to keep growing and getting better. And I really do love what I do...

This photo is from a session today that you'll be seeing more of either tomorrow or Monday. I used the TRA2 (Totally Rad Actions 2) from Boutwell Studios to create the look of this image. If you're a photographer and you don't own any of the Totally Rad Action sets, you need to stop what you're doing and go buy them. I have the complete set and I would be lost without them. Just go ahead and buy the mega mix because you'll end up saving money. Once you buy one set, you'll have to have the other.

Marybeth and Justin were married in Huntington on Saturday, October 18. You may remember them from last November's engagement shoot at Heritage Farm. They had a beautiful day with great weather and some of the best light I've ever seen. It was an honor to be their photographer and to witness the Christ-centered service. It was hard to choose just a few photos to feature because I lost control of myself and shot over a thousand pictures!

Chase and his mom, Jennifer, and I met on Friday to take some photos for a calendar that will feature Chase. Chase has psoriasis and he'll be in a 2009 calendar to benefit Psoriasis Cure Now. My new wide angle lens came today! I'm excited to use it at this weekend's wedding and several other shoots I have coming up in the next two weeks. I'm going to be a very busy girl for the next few weeks! Stay tuned - the blog will be updated regularly very soon!

You might be tired of seeing the puppy, but she was my only model at home when my lens arrived. I took this photo at 10mm and I love the distortion at the edges! It'll be more noticable with other subjects, but this was the best I could do today.

With just a touch of fisheye to the shot, this is one cute puppy! This lens will open up a lot of possibilities!

Until then....we got a little friend to keep us entertained! This is Abby, our 11 week old apricot poodle puppy. She's little and full of energy and personality. She's probably between 2 and 3 pounds right now and I'm in love with her!

Chalcie - Senior 2009

I've known Chalcie since she was born. Our families have been close for a long time and Chalcie's like another little sister to me. It's hard to believe that she's a senior this year! We spent several hours on Tuesday running around Charleston and doing a lot of wardrobe changes. To end our day, we set a volleyball on fire! (I'm really into setting things on fire for pictures right now - I should probably have that checked out!) I think we got some great shots from the day. It was so hard to choose, but here are a few of my favorites:

Kanawha City Village Fair

Ryan and Hannah

I've known Ryan and Hannah for most of Ryan's life and all of Hannah's. I can't believe I took their 6-year-old and 4-year-old pictures today! They're getting so big and they're as cute as can be! (Not to mention that they both have beautiful blue eyes that look amazing in photos!) It was a hot day, but they made it through and we got some great shots!

Charleston Rose Society Photo Exhibit

Sunday is "Symphony Sunday" at the University of Charleston. As part of the day, the Charleston Rose Society is having a photo exhibit. I saw the article in the paper last night and I'll be participating. The photo below is an older rose photo of mine. I'll be entering it along with a dozen others. I think the show runs from 1-4 (not totally sure on the times) on the second floor of the Geary Student Union. Stop by and check out the photos!

Baptisms

On Sunday night, Gateway Church celebrated some baptisms. We lead the service at First Baptist Church of St. Albans that evening and they allowed us to use their baptistery because we don't yet have one. As I was editing the photos I took, I thought that this series was especially great. The little guy is Ryan and baptizing him are his dad, Chris, and Pastor Ron. I love the big smile on his face!

Today was a beautiful sunny day with a perfect blue sky and fluffy white clouds. It was a great day for a senior session. Mark actually graduated from Capital High yesterday, but it's never too late for senior pictures! Congratulations, Mark and good luck at WVU next year!

Nicolo is here as a foreign exchange student from Milan, Italy. This weekend, while at Lake Norman, NC, I shot his senior pictures. We had a beautiful day and wonderful scenery to work with. There are a lot of pictures in this post - I had a hard time narrowing them down!

We wanted to find something that was "American" to incorporate into the photos. We found a mailbox that says "US Mail".

Family portraits - Lake Norman, NC

This weekend, we had my family's annual reunion at Lake Norman, NC. As part of the fun, we all put on matching clothes and took some family portraits. Not everyone was thrilled with matching, but I think it made the photos! First I took individual family portraits, then all of us together.

Jen's Southern BBQ - Nitro, WV

Today, Kevin and I went to Jen's Southern BBQ in Nitro (on 1st Ave. and 8th St.) to take a few pictures for some advertising.

The ribs on the smoker out front looked especially tasty!

They had a really cute whole chicken that was almost heart-shaped. (I'm pretty sure that was just coincidental, not intentional.)

Bridal shower baking fun!

This post is purely personal, but there are pictures involved. I think it qualifies for the blog.

My church bridal shower is tomorrow. Anna is baking (and will be into the night). Fortunately, since I'm the bride, I just get to watch...and dance a little. We started off the baking with a hoe-down in the kitchen. After the dog's food went flying all over the floor, the square dancing had to end. Finally, when my mom and sister started doing the soldia boy dance, I remembered to get out the camera. My new Canon Powershot a470 (my birthday present from my parents - tomorrow is not only my bridal shower, but also my birthday!) takes video. Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to see Anna "Walk this Way". You'll be sorry if you miss it! You get dessert and a show around here!

Ok, I did pitch in a little by peeling 72 Rolos for Anna (This fine outfit is part of my "at home for the evening" collection. Coming to a Goodwill near you soon.)

My shower is called "An afternoon of desserts". Laura and Katie are also baking up some delightful treats! Based on what I see in our kitchen, I think we'll be having a "month of leftover desserts".

My mom was really telling Anna how to spread the dough, but it looks like she's doing some magic.

I'm pretty excited because I bought the Totally Rad Action set today and it was on sale! I've played with a lot of images using the actions and I posted a few. Of course Laura and little Noah make great models to play with! I can't wait to do some seniors this summer and use these effects!

Mary Ellen's Surprise Birthday Party!

Saturday, I celebrated Mary Ellen's birthday with her, her family, and friends. Katie (her daughter and one of my very bestest friends!) planned a fabulous surprise party and it was a success! The party was at The Barge Restaurant in South Charleston.

WV Home School Association Banquet - Poca, WV

Last night I went to Poca to get some photos before the WV Home School Association banquet began. The dinner was held at Wellington's at Scarlet Oaks Country Club. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful location. The dogwood trees were in full bloom!

Ray 60th Anniversary - Lewisburg, WV

Today Ralph and Mary Ray celebrated their 60th anniversary in Lewisburg! It was a beautiful day and a great drive down. It's really starting to look like spring - the trees are budding, the dogwoods are already out, the sun was shining, and the grass is coming back to life. Lewisburg is a lovely little town. I drove through the town before the party and thought it was so cute that I wanted to move there. I love small towns and Lewisburg seems especially charming!
The party was very nice at Blackwell's at the country club. I hope that, in 2068, Kevin and I look half as good as Mr. and Mrs. Ray! They were so cute and, obviously, still in love.

Blackwell's was a great place for the party!

This little girl is the first and only great-grandchild. She's the star of the show and so cute! She probably made her way into at least half of the pictures.

The camera was turned on me! I'm thinking about getting this model myself. I've heard good things about the quality of the "Elmo's World" camera. Plus, you get some stylish eyes with your camera! What more could a photographer ask for?

Tamarack

I'm home from Tamarack and I have to go back for juries again in October. I would have gotten in except that my frames managed to get scratched between last night and this morning.

Here's the story: Last night Kevin realized that I hadn't put the picture hangers on the frames. I thought that maybe my work would be best displayed on an easel to save time and effort but Kevin insisted that we put them on. By the time that we were done, it was somewhere around 2:30 and it was a frustrating job. I packed the photos up and didn't see them again until I saw them all displayed for the jury. When I went in to Tamarack, they took my bag and set them up for me. Unfortunately, the picture hangers had scratched the frames behind them. I knew as soon as I saw them that this would not be the day I got in. Fortunately, I got a "resubmit" and I'm happy with that. I'm definitely in need of a nap, now!

On the way home, I dropped off some pieces at The Art Emporium on Quarrier Street. If you're interested in any of my fine art pieces, you can pick them up there or contact me directly!
