Sarah and Luke - Engagement

Sarah and Luke and I met halfway for all of us at Dunbar Wine Cellar Park. We had a break from the rain for their session, but I didn't think about how saturated the ground would be. We were all wet (and a little muddy!) from at least mid-calf down. We had a great session, though, despite the small lakes in the middle of the park. Congratulations, Sarah and Luke! I had a great time with you!

Megan and Ricky - the Charleston session

Megan and Ricky and I met yesterday evening at University of Charleston for a few pictures in Megan's hometown. We had some great light and a warm evening for November. Megan and Ricky - the Huntington session

Megan and I met in church when we were in second grade. We grew up at Oakwood together, surivived a few mission trips, and now we're all grown up! Through the wonders of Facebook, I've watched Megan and Ricky fall in love. One morning, while I was sitting in church, I got a text from my mom telling me that Megan and Ricky were at church and Megan had a ring! On Saturday, we met at Ritter Park in Huntington for round one of their engagement pictures. We'll continue them this Saturday in Charleston. We had a beautiful day to shoot and Megan and Ricky were naturals. I hope you enjoy the first batch of pictures!

Artsy?

In college, I just couldn't get my creativity turned on. In my photography classes, I couldn't get out of the box. One particular professor spent many semesters pushing and shoving me to get creative, but I managed to just get her to be creative for me. It was a win-win. (Well, maybe just for me!) After college, I went to Disney and got in a different box. The poses and photos that we were taking were good, but they were all the same. I didn't realize until recently how confined I felt there. It was safe because I knew what I needed to shoot and I could check off my list, but it was very limiting. I think, just maybe, I've finally unlocked my creative gene. It's very freeing to do what you love and try new things all the time to keep growing and getting better. And I really do love what I do...

This photo is from a session today that you'll be seeing more of either tomorrow or Monday. I used the TRA2 (Totally Rad Actions 2) from Boutwell Studios to create the look of this image. If you're a photographer and you don't own any of the Totally Rad Action sets, you need to stop what you're doing and go buy them. I have the complete set and I would be lost without them. Just go ahead and buy the mega mix because you'll end up saving money. Once you buy one set, you'll have to have the other.




Megan and Ricky - I had fun today! I'm looking forward to our continuation next week. I'm really liking what I've edited so far. I can't wait for you to see them!

Rings

I've taken a few ring shots lately that I thought I'd share. The first one I sent to Kevin on Valentine's Day of my ring. He didn't notice the heart until I pointed it out! The second one is from the last time Kevin brought me roses for no reason. I love taking pictures of roses and of my ring, so I put them together! The last three are of Katie's wedding set. She was admiring my ring pictures and I just happened to have 5 dozen roses from Kevin, so I whipped up a few shots for her!
Fun ring shots will be included in every engagement/wedding shoot from now on. I've seen so many great ones lately on other photographer's blogs and I've got to catch up!

Justin and Marybeth - Heritage Farm

Yesterday I shot Marybeth and Justin's engagement session at Heritage Farm in Huntington. It was a beautiful sunny day and Heritage Farm was a great location! Marybeth came with a lot of great ideas and she and Justin were fun and easy to photograph. I can't wait for their wedding in October!
